"Stearyl" mostly refers to stearyl alcohol as alcoholic component or generally a hydrocarbon residue with 18 carbon atoms; The name component "stearoyl" means that the ingredient contains, as fatty acid component, amongst others, stearic acid (octadecanoic acid) (mostly introduced via an acylation reaction). Stearates are salts or esters of stearic acid (octadecanoic acid).
