"Methyl" mostly refers to methanol (methyl alcohol) as alcoholic component or generally the methyl group as the smallest hydrocarbon residue with one carbon atom. Dimethyl-, trimethyl- etc refer to two, three or more methyl groups. "...Siloxy" generally refers to a silicone-oxygen group, particularly in siloxanes. Siloxanes are silicone compounds in which the silicone atoms are interlinked via oxygen bridges. Polymeric siloxanes are referred to as silicones. Silicates are salts and esters of the silicic acid; this also includes natural silicate minerals or synthetic silicates (eg "glasses"). Ingredient on the basis of poly(di)methyl siloxane ("dimethicone"). "Cross polymer" refers to a crosslinked polymer.
