Background information on use in cosmetics
The natural products healing clay, mud and seawater are used in some cosmetic products and special cosmetic applications since they supply the skin with minerals and trace elements which are important for the skin metabolism. Healing earth can, moreover, bind and neutralise harmful substances. The main use is in masks where it absorbs excessive sebum and hence has a deep cleansing effect. Moreover, it is increasingly used in haircare, since healing earth can free the scalp from oil and dirt as well as dead skin flakes. Mud is used because of its clarifying properties more particularly in cleansing products for oily skin. Since mud is, moreover, a good moisturiser, it is also contained in products for normal to dry skin. Seawater is likewise used in cosmetic products because of its moisturising effect.
