Ingredient
HYDROLYZED KERATIN PG-PROPYLMETHYLSILANEDIOL
Substance information
"Hydrolyzed" means: hydrolysed or a hydrolysate (product of the separation of a chemical compound by reaction with water, often by means of enzymes). Ingredient on the basis of keratin or hydrolysed keratin. "PG" refers to propylene glycol (1,2-propylene glycol, propane-1,2-diol) as alcoholic component of this ingredient. "Propyl" mostly refers to propanol (1-propanol or n-propanol) as alcoholic component or generally a saturated hydrocarbon chain with 3 carbon atoms. The methyl group is one of the simplest arrangements of atoms in organic chemistry which can be found as a moiety of numerous organic molecules. The name „methyl“ is derived from methane, the member of the alkane hydrocarbon group with the lowest molecular weight. The methane molecule contains four hydrogen atoms each one bound to a central carbon atom. The methyl group is not an independent chemical entity and contains only three hydrogen atoms, the fourth binding site is generally used for binding to a larger, mainly organic molecule. Like all alkanes, methyl groups exhibit a particularly low chemical reactivity. This ingredient contains (methyl) silanediol as alcoholic component.

Background information on use in cosmetics
Keratins are water-insoluble proteins which constitute the main component of skin, hair and nails. They consist of amino acid chains which are interconnected in the form of fibres in such a way that they ensure a high degree of stability. Hair and nails become elastic and stress-resistant. In cosmetic products keratins (INCI name component: KERATIN) may also be applied externally to the skin and the hair as care. As ingredient in hair cosmetic products, they help, for instance, to strengthen the hair structure and rebuild it. With their support hair becomes easier to comb, supple, soft and glossy. Moreover, they provide the hair with more volume. In cosmetic haircare products, keratins preserve the moisture of the skin and ensure a smooth and soft skin surface.
