Ingredient
AMMONIUM ACRYLOYLDIMETHYLTAURATE/VP COPOLYMER
Substance information
"Ammonium..." refers generally to an ammonium salt. "Acryloyl" refers to the acryloyl group H2C=CH-CO- (the acyl residue of the acrylic acid). "Methacryloyl" refers to the methacryloil group (methacryloil-). The methyl group is one of the simplest arrangements of atoms in organic chemistry which can be found as a moiety of numerous organic molecules. The name „methyl“ is derived from methane, the member of the alkane hydrocarbon group with the lowest molecular weight. The methane molecule contains four hydrogen atoms each one bound to a central carbon atom. The methyl group is not an independent chemical entity and contains only three hydrogen atoms, the fourth binding site is generally used for binding to a larger, mainly organic molecule. Like all alkanes, methyl groups exhibit a particularly low chemical reactivity. According to systematic chemical nomenclature, taurate is the name for the deprotonated, anionic form of taurine. Under physiological conditions with a close to neutral pH, taurine predominantly exists as taurate, making it the primary form found in mammalian organisms. In contrast, INCI nomenclature is using the term TAURATE as a code for chemicals of the type "methylaminoalkane sulfonic acid" which are building blocks of large, highly complex molecules such as polymers or surfactants. In the case of surfactants, TAURATE in the INCI name is mostly coding for 2-methylaminoethane sulfonic acid. Polymer or copolymer based on vinyl pyrrolidone and possibly other monomers. "Copolymer" refers to a polymer composed of several different (mostly two) basic units (monomers).
