Background information on use in cosmetics
Evening primrose oil is obtained from the seeds of the primrose which originally comes from the southwest of North America. The seeds are in the fruits of the evening primrose, whereby each fruit has approximately 200 seeds. Despite the high number of seeds the oil yield is only low and, therefore, the production is quite expensive. Evening primrose oil has a high degree of gamma linolenic acid which is known for its calming effect on sensitive skin and supports the protective function of the skin. Moreover, creams with this vegetable oil are particularly suited for dry skin, because it is a reliable moisturiser and keeps the skin smooth.
