Pre and aftershave products
Description
Pre-shave products prepare the skin and the beard for a light and thorough shaving. Pre-shave products for electric shaving are based on high percentage alcoholic solutions which have a dehydrating and stiffening effect. For the electric razor to slide easily over the face, the braking moisture film on the skin is removed and the skin is smoothed. At the same time the beard hair is dressed for a quick and caring shaving. Apart from alcohol plant extracts (eg witch hazel, BISABOLOL) as well as a composition of essential oils with refreshing and astringent ingredients (eg MENTHOL, CAMPHOR) are frequently included. Pre-shave products for wet shaving are to remove the talcum layer from the beard hair prior to shaving so that water can penetrate into the hair and soften it. Only after the beard hair has swollen, smooth, soft cuts with the blade are possible. After shaving the lipid protection film on the skin must regenerate and the skin needs calming, relaxation, refreshment and care. Apart from the traditional aftershave lotion, aftershave products are also available as lotions, balms, creams and gels. Traditional aftershave lotions are intended to refresh the face and avoid bacterial inflammation processes. They contain perfume oil which is dissolved in aqueous alcohol. The latter is the main component of the products with a share of 40 to 80%. Frequently MENTHOL is added, which increases the refreshing and cooling effect of the product. Modern aftershave products have a neutralising, refattening and astringent effect after the application of aftershave products based on soap. They cool, refresh and support the healing of micro-injuries and prevent inflammations. Major ingredients are essential oils, plant extracts (eg witch hazel), moisturising substances as well as refreshing and astringent components (such as MENTHOL, CAMPHOR or alum) in combination with different vitamins. Aftershave lotions contain up to 40 % of alcohol and have replaced in many bathrooms the shaving colognes. Calming, mild, refattening and caring ingredients are frequently added to the lotions (eg witch hazel, vitamins and GLYCERIN). In aftershave lotions the perfume oil share is significantly higher than in shaving colognes. Aftershave balms are products which focus on the caring of the shaved skin. Because of the comparatively low share of alcohol they are preferred, more particularly, in the event of a sensitive skin prone to redness. The balms are non-fattening O/W emulsions with skin-friendly pH value and cream-like consistency. They are absorbed quickly and make the skin smooth and supple. Further ingredients are, for instance: camomile extracts (eg BISABOLOL) to calm stressed skin, skin-protecting lipids, moisturisers (eg GLYCERIN), vitamins (eg Vitamin E and Provitamin B5) as well as essential oils and fragrances. Aftershave creams convince, more particularly, with their sustainable improvements of the moisture content of the skin. The latter becomes noticeably smoother and is provided with new tension. High-quality ingredients support the regeneration process of the skin (e.g. vitamins, ALLANTOIN, witch hazel, AZULENE or BISABOLOL). The products are structured in a similar manner than products for skin care. Aftershave gels have a refreshing effect, they are mild and are absorbed particularly rapidly by the skin without a greasy effect. Solvents evaporate essentially more slowly from the gels. In this way gels ensure a longer cooling effect on the shaved skin areas. The contained ingredients correspond to those of the other aftershave products.
