Description
The range of cosmetic sunscreens stretches from oil via liquid (milk) and creamy emulsions to lotions, gels, sticks, sprays and foams. The sun protection factors offered range between 6 and 50+ and cover with five protection classes the individual and climatically based different need for protection. The most important ingredients of cosmetic sunscreens are the UV filters (eg OCTOCRYLENE, BUTYL METHOXYDIBENZOYLMETHANE). They are subject to strict statutory restrictions and are listed after their authorisation in a special annex (positive list) of the European Cosmetics Regulation. Around 30 UV filters may be exclusively used for sunscreens. In support of the skin's own protection systems, antioxidants like Vitamin E, Vitamin C, coenzyme Q10 and many plant extracts are frequently used. In addition, sunscreens contain care substances to take into account differences concerning the need for skin moisture and oil. The other components correspond to those of cosmetic care products.
