Soap basis
Description
Soaps are water-soluble alkali salts of higher fatty acids. Potassium salts are referred to as soft soaps, sodium salts as fine soaps. For cosmetic purposes, exclusively fine soaps are used. They can have different additions such as refattening agents, perfume ingredients or stabilising agents. Soaps react alkaline in aqueous solution (pH value higher than 9) and form insoluble so-called lime soap in hard water.
