Resins
Description
Resins are film-forming synthetic polymers, which are mainly used in the fields of nail varnishes and hair styling. This includes, for instance, urethanes or acrylsulphonamides. Resins of natural origin are mostly plant (eg mastic or storax) and occasionally animal excretions (eg shellac). They are amorphous masses without a fixed melting point and fully or only partly soluble in organic solvents. They are only very rarely used as cosmetic ingredients today. In the form of their extraction products, resins are, however, used as basic raw materials for the production of perfume oils.
