Emulsifying agents
Description
Emulsifying agents allow liquid components which cannot be mixed with one another, like for instance oil and water, to be brought into a stable emulsion. Emulsifying agents are characterised by an important property: they are solvent both in water and in fats and oils. The molecules of an emulsifying agent consist of two parts: a lipophilic and a hydrophilic part. The excipients frequently also referred to as surfactants are broadly used not only in cosmetics but also in pharmacy, in food technology, in household products (e.g. cleaning products and water-based paints) and in several other industrial applications.
